David, you can simply use File | Open Directory to open an existing project

Actually, after invoking Run Rails Generator popup you can simply type * in the search box to show all available generators. However, in the next RC they will be shown automatically

It's a well known Linux JDK font rendering problem that can't be fixed on our side.Also, "monospaced" in java and non-java apps are absolutely unrelated fonts, you may try changing font in Settings...
