check your ant javac target: the target may say fork="yes", in which case it gets its own VM that does not inherit the 1.5GB you configured for IDEA

I found a workaround. I attached the JDK source files to one of my OWN libraries. Now I can navigate seamlessly from my code into the source code for java.lang.String or java.sql.Date for example.

I found answer myself -- sql not explicitly supported until IJ8. But I also added my own SQL file type and entered a few dozen keywords. That's enough for now.
