FWIW it hasn't happened for days for me. The only thing I can think I'm doing differently is that before I probably had a Python script left running (this file), whereas now I don't.

I'm seeing this too. When I go to PyCharm after sleeping the PC, it's just a big grey screen, and the only way to kill it is via task manager.Is there a YouTrack issue for this?
