Why switch? Why not install both IntelliJ 7.0.4 and IntelliJ 8.0? They don't bite, and it gives you an option to try out the new features, while being able to revert back to 7.0.4 when 8.0M1 proves...

I'm wondering what plugins you have installed (FindBugs, PMD maybe?), cause AFAIK, Eclipse doesn't (and IMO, shouldn't!) warn about those things. I've never see Eclipse warn about it, and not catch...

I guess the same as when using JUnit? In the run configurations, go to the code coverage tab, and specify that code coverage should be recorded.
