Great. Also, it seems that my solution of using another jdk is only temporary. When restarting IDEA the problem loading the archetypes is back. Something then just needs to change to get it back to...

I had the same problem with 2017.3 ultimate (Ubuntu 16.04). Changed the settings for maven to use the oracle 1.8 jdk to get it to work. Changing the xmx setting did not seem to help.   By the way, ...

Restarting did the trick. Thanks! (In 2017.3 version this is still an issue)
