    Winfixit's solution works. pip install from pycharm terminal solves the problem.

    Unfortunately the trick only allows me to plot once in each jupyter server run, after closing the window I can't plot again unless restart the server...

    The backend above didn't work for me. This works for me (pycharm professional 2020/03) import matplotlibmatplotlib.use('TKAgg')import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
