Memory Settings - Mac OS X

I'm trying to reset the memory for the JVM in which IDEA runs. I strongly suspect that its currently set to 64MB/128MB, and I would like something more like 256MB/512MB.The settings in the idea.pli...

Yes,but how do you do it on Mac OSX? I've seen an idea.plist file, which would normall hold the settings, but altering the settings here makes no noticeable differance to operations.
