I've found with 977 (just downloaded 992) that I had to do a "rebuild project" once (after initially creating the project), otherwise it would continuiously try to recompile almost everything.Maybe...

Hack your $INSTALL_ROOT/bin/log.xml file and comment out the "DIALOG" appender.The errors will still happen, but they won't appear in your face.

I had the same problem with 977, Mac 10.3.1 Pantheron a Dual G5, using home path /Library/Java/Homesolved this problem.I tried something similar -- a symlink in /usr/local/jdk -- but it didn't help...
