I had not. So I ran a maven clean on all modules first just to have a clean slate. Then I rebuilt the project from Intellij Build menu and was able to debug in the groovy class.

I just wanted to add some input to this issue as I am also having the same problems - groovy test cases ignored, unable to step into groovy code with breakpoints, and print statements in groovy cod...
