I still haven't gotten any answer about modules.xml. Shouldn't this be on the list to ignore when using external modules from gradle? I can't see anything in that file that is unique any it changes...

Now in 2017.3.1 the option "Group modules: [] using explicit module groups [x] using qualified names" is undocumented.

Is .idea/modules.xml now not necessary to version control since 2017.3.1? I use gradle and "Store generated project files externally" and IntelliJ removed this file when I exited after upgrading to...
