Could it be that the Project JDK is changed under some circumstances? The most likely case is that it happens when refreshing the project model.

It is expected that sbt 1.x works with Scala plugin 2017.2.13, but I recommend upgrading to 2018.1

This file is created by the Hydra compiler support which has recently beed added to the Scala plugin. If you do not use this feature, it is safe to ignore the file.

Lightbend Activator has been decomissioned, thus support from IntelliJ has been removed as well. Some of the templates are available via "Lightbend Project Starter"
