Yes, I'm using a real device. About the database being closed ... that was a bit strange ... after closing the app for the first time, the database was open, and now it stays open (fortunately).

OK, that worked. Thank you very much.   Just out of curiosity ... why is the <jsp:useBean> option available at all in a jsf project? Does that mean I could have a misconfguration?

It was off, switched it to on, looks like it helped. But I'd like to watch it for a while before I can say it's solved, as I also noticed that it does not happen always. Thanks for the hint.
