Update: Switching the driver back to MySql connector to 5.1.35 fixed it (I assume query_cache_size was not yet removed)

This issue seems to be valid for Rider as well (thus c# not java connector used). Updated the connector to latest version of 8.0.15. MySQL DB sits in Azure as Azure MySQL Database service.
