Transiently cannot select all in Editor Window

Like the title says.

I've just updated versions of IDEA and I'm experiencing random problems like this (last week I periodically could not type in editor window).

Now I'm periodically pressing Cmd + a to select all text. The "Edit" dropdown trigger will flicker blue as if it an action within it has been triggered, but no text is selected. I open a few tool windows (version control or debug) and close them a few times and eventually it goes away. It is insanely frustrating and I can't seem to pinpoint what causes this behavior.
