Closing projct doesn't close IDE
I often have multiple non-associated projects open in multiple IDE's, When I try to close one of the projects and the associated IDE editor the project closes but the IDE remains running.
I open additional projects from the recently opened as either open in new or open in existing, When I close that project either from the file menu as close project or by closing the IDE with the window close, the other projects, correctly, remain running. The one I am closing will close the project but not the window, when I then try to close the empty IDE PHPstorm shuts down, there have been occasions when I have had 4 or 5 IDE's running after closing the extra projects I end up with 2 or 3 empty IDE's running, the only way to clean PHPStorm up is to close the application and reload it again. IN the previous versions this was not happening, ide's were opening and closing correctly.
This is running Windows 10, with the latest version of
PhpStorm 2017.1.2
Build #PS-171.4249.3, built on April 12, 2017

Hi there,
I guess it's one of these:
That's https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-171010 - we can confirm that.
The only difference is I do not get any errors displayed, all I get is what I sent in the screen shot. The empty inactive ide window that seems to have lost connection to its underlying system in that the close button doesn't work, and when I use file->exit all the ide projects close.
In the strictest sense of the described error IDEA-171010 mine is not the same.
Same problem here, Windows 10. Atleast 2 diffrent machines (using mainly PHPStorm)
https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-171010
Same problem for me, working on ubuntu 16.04.
And its fixed for me with the update from today :)
Fixed by removing "Quick Note" plugin, as it should be shared between instances, it locks those instance from being closed.
Same problem with PhpStorm 2019.3
Build #PS-193.5233.101
^ Same problem with WebStorm 2019.3
Build #WS-193.5233.80
Multiple windows of projects open, closing one leaves a blank window open.
Please check this on PhpStorm 2019.3.1 preview: https://blog.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/2019/12/phpstorm-2019-3-1-preview/ - should be fixed there
Dmitry,
Unfortunately I have the same problem on 2019.3.1 preview:

Thanks.
Lard Dev Could you please confirm that it happens randomly or there is a workflow that 100% leads to the issue? If this is the case, would it be possible to share some step-by-step instructions so we may try to reproduce the issue on our end? Thanks!
Also, just in case, I would like to notice that we have released PhpStorm 2019.3.1 RC today, so please feel free to update.
Vasiliy Yur, I'm sorry for such a long delay with my answer. I would be glad to provide more details or to track down some behavioral pattern, so you can investigate this issue further. However I'm not sure when it's happening. I can only say that I'm noticing this problem having more than 5 opened projects, but if I try to just open 5 random projects and start to close them immediately after opening, everything will be fine. So obviously there is some exception during the work with one of the opened project that prevents PhpStorm from closing.
Thank you.
Lard Dev No worries at all and thank you for your reply.
I was wondering if you could record a short screencast next time the issue occurs. Also, after the next occurrence, please collect log files (Help > Compress logs and show) and feel free to report the issue to the Support Team (Help > Contact Support) or to our tracker at https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/NewIssue
Thanks!
Lard Dev another related problem was fixed just recently: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-205849. Unfortunately the fix isn't included in a build you can test right now, looks like it's going to be included only in 2020.1 version.
Confirm it's happening on my version:

In fact, you may already try 2020.1 EAP build, it is publicly available:

Hi,
It is happening to me too. In a linux machine, debian 10.

Otto, what about 2020.1 EAP, have you tried it there? https://www.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/nextversion/
Hi Eugene,
I have tried it yesterday, after I've seen Vassily's post.
It didn't work very nice and I couldn't see any folder created in ~/.PhpStorm2020.1 plus I got three plugin errors during installation. I have removed it after 5 minutes because I really want a stable version and 2020.1 didn't feel very stable.
I have installed 2019.3.3 and I will submit the logs when it happens next.
Hello,
It just happened again.
I have uploaded the log file here
https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/WI-51351
I hope you find it useful.
I'm having with 2020.1.1 exiting, or quitting out of the IDE, I'm needing to force quit.
Java JDK 9.0
IntelliJ IDEA 2020.1.1 (Community)
Build #IC-201.7223.91

MAC OS -Mojave10.14.6 (18G3020)
Hello,
I just wanted to say just for the record that since version 2020.1.1 I haven't had the issue, so far.
Very pleased for this.
Thank you
Okay, its possible that I have a different issue that is causing it to not close then what was happening before. But I definitely needed to FORCE QUIT IntelliJ IDEA. I know how to close apps, LOL. And I looked for other windows or apps open that might be preventing IntelliJ not to exit. No luck.
I can also confirm that I haven't had this issue since updating to version 2020.1, and then 2020.1.1.
Thanks!
Hi Nathan,
I hope your issue is resolved soon. Just a thought that you could submit a log file when the issue occurs again. I think developers might identify the problem and it may well be something similar to this issue. It's definitely worth it.
thanks
