Latest major release of webstorm seems slow. Using 180%CPU when typing :-(

With latest version (last major release) of WebStorm the IDE appears to be slow (sluggish).
For example, I can type here with virtually no delay between a keypress and a character/sentence appearing... however on the mac version of Webstorm... the IDE seems to stumble and only complete a line after a noticeable delay. (like its trying to look up something for each and every key press).
Even resizing the ide window is painful... dragging the bottom corner of the IDE to the center (for example), i need to wait at least 2 seconds for the IDE to resize.
The CPU is mostly idle... with webstorm consuming < 1% at idle... However, as soon as WS has focus and you start typing... WS shoots up around 180%!!
I have disabled a number of plugins (unused) but the "slugginess" seems to persist.
Is there anyway of addressing this issue??... as i dont wish to go back to using Sublime.

FYI: I have a year old Macbook Pro with 16Gb RAM and a SSD.
PS: I have read similar older posts in the forum.. but didn't come across any solutions.

Please try taking CPU snapshots when the problem occurs - see https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207241235-Reporting-performance-problems
Also, I'd suggest excluding all dynamically generated folders (if any) from your project (Mark directory as/Excluded). This would reduce the overall code base size and help to avoid project re-indexing while flashing generated files to disk.

I have completed the CPU shapshots.. where/how do i upload the snapshot file? (as i cant seem to upload/attach here directly).
Please upload them to our FTP server (ftp://ftp.intellij.net/.uploads/ - anonymous login, .uploads directory has no permissions to list/download files, only for upload) and let me know the file names

Switching to the oracle version I noticed a couple of things.
1) The delay when typing is virtually gone.. yay!
2) You can resize the IDE window.. with no delay (before nothing happened for 2-4 seconds).. yay!
3) You can scroll up/down the tab/window with no delay ... yay!
4) Strange.. but the CPU usage has gone up.. when typing..... peaks at almost 600% sometimes... :-)
Does that help in resolving the problem?
Sounds like the bundled JDK/java might be the bottleneck perhaps??
