Excluded paths not working in deployment tool

Am I doing something wrong when trying to exclude paths from deployment? I'm following the instructions as per here: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/phpstorm/excluding-files-and-folders-from-deployment.html#exclude-after-creation (actually, I haven't read it, but it seems to be what I'm trying to do).

And have added both my WordPress and .idea paths for exclusion...

Yet when I try to synchronise it (Tools | Deployment | Sync deployed with {host}), it still tries to synchronize those folders. What fundamental thing am I missing here?
