Developing visualization plugin for IntelliJ ultimate using yFiles

Hi all

I need to develop a plugin for IntelliJ including some diagrams. All users of the plugin have a ultimate licence and since the diagrams provided by IntelliJ are all using yFiles I was wondering if there is a way to use it to create custom plugins. 

Older posts from years ago pointed out that this was possible. If we can still use yFiles for custom plugins could you please give me some hints on where to start or find some simple examples?
