Hung "Reading Maven projects..." normal or bug?

Lately I noticed the message “Reading Maven projects…” remaining on after launching an application from inside IntelliJ. EDIT: The message seems to stick around also when not running apps.
It does not seem to cause any issues with the running applications, but it smells like a bug.
Anybody have some insight?
Upon expanding the Background tasks, this is what shows:

This appears to be the issue described in IDEA-335539 - please try the workaround suggested there and make sure to upvote the YouTrack Issue to raise its' priority for the developers!
Curiously, while it was a persistent problem for a few days, I power up the computer this morning… and it has not repeated itself yet.
UPDATE: The problem returned today. It seems to be random whether it happens or not.
I disabled the Package Checker mentioned in that ticket and it does seem to have addressed the issue, although it could be that the randomness on restart made it not happen.
The version 2023.2.4 mentioned as a possible bug fix… is not mainstream yet, not getting it as an option when requesting a check for updates. I will leave Package Checker disabled until the version becomes official. That should also confirm whether the band-aid of disabling it works as a solution.
