Why can't my IDE detect opentype fonts?

I just installed a new font: githubnext/monaspace: An innovative superfamily of fonts for code but my IDE just can't detect my font. I suspect that it is a limitation because TTF fonts can be used no problem. Any idea? no pun intended.

Font questions are OS-specific. What OS do you have? If it's Linux, please specify your Linux version, Window manager (Gnome, KDE, etc), and if you have Wayland or x11 (echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE).
