5 day old AI Pro subscription: You have reached the monthly fair use volume of JetBrains AI.

I just paid for an AI Pro subscription last week. I use AI Assistant quite a bit as it is super helpful. I used the pre-release version for months with no real limitations, except length of a single chat was limited.
Now 5 days into it I get this:
“You have reached the monthly fair use volume of JetBrains AI. If you need to allocate some extra volume, please contact our support team. <link>”
I did go to Help → Register and made sure my purchased license is activated.
I also submitted a help request about 6 hours ago, but no response yet and AI Assistant still not working.
Wondering if this is a bug -or- my monthly subscription only buys 4 days of usage.

I have decided to cancel mine after a fair use message. the annoying part being if the ai actually created code that worked without creating errors, I would not of have to use it as much! i asked it to create a simple ajax response for server side validation, to be honest it just created mess on top of mess, i have gone back to vs code
After a day of waiting, it finally worked for me, but then after 30 minutes, I got the limit again even though I hadn't made a single request. What kind of nonsense is this?

Please submit a support request to investigate your issue further. We need your account details (email, license ID) to be able to analyze your usage: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=66731.
I am only in education but i simply learned in my first project never deploy without user detailed documentation for all stakeholder and testing so you can always link to the manual and documentation in case of support. Starts by developer and ends in sales department. As a student i will stick further to jetbrains stuff in the future cause its cool. Shit happens, but you throw stones in the workflow for us developers. Fix it, please or reputation decereases. Thanks
I'll be brief: this is absolutely frustrating. I paid my annual subscription and I was only able to use the service for 5 days!

Please submit a support request to check your quota usage: https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=66731. Actually, the quota usage limit is weekly. So it is reset every 7 days.
Happened a second time for me after 3 days of reasonably medium-heavy usage, and I do create new chats periodically when they start to get long. I hope they change this, as it's no fun worrying about running out.
This is the thing, I have now had to change my behaviour/use of it because I worry about getting abruptly cut off again too.
I now try to avoid using it which is a ridiculous state of affairs for a paid monthly service. I now often use the free chatgpt service first to avoid using up this notional, unclear and unflagged “fair use” limit. For much of it ChatGPT is as good or better. I even started look at VSCode in case using that with copilot for the AI bits would be viable.
Oh, and before this I only used the free ChatGPT service and it never once timed me out.
If the situation isn't improved I can't see it being my long term solution.
cancelled min and requested a refund, I made a request to have extra usage after the first time I had it cancelled after 3 days for fair usage, and yet again it has blocked me for fair usage. I am paying for a months usage. The joke is if you look at one of the quotes "Luca Nerlich
Tech Consultant, Nerlich / Puls GbR
Absolute game-changer. Use it daily." would he like to share the secret on how he is able to use for more than 3 days when the rest of us can't?
i had it for 5 hours and i hit the limit :( because it became so unresponsive and didnt complete, i didnt know i was consuming “Volume” i just presumed it was like chatgpt and used it like such with out a second thought, i didnt know it was going to be this limited in use, you cant use it all day? but a limited amount?? so then your stuck without it for a week, on mine now it says, 6 days, i think this is totally unfair, im half mind to get a refund, but ill give them the opportunity to fix it.
“Everyone can try JetBrains AI for free before purchasing the Pro plan. By subscribing to the Pro plan, you can enjoy full access to the JetBrains AI service. To maintain an optimal level of performance and ensure fairness among all users, your access to the features may be adjusted based on your usage.”
this needs to be clearer, this is all you get on the page advertising it!!! not acceptable.
Its obviously far too limited for the end user at present, whos paid for it, Me, They need to expand there quotas with the 3rd party services, they are using, because for this to be a viable AI Assistant, there shouldnt be these limitations on a user, in which you advertise as full access, I used it for 5 hours!!!! before i got a red exclamation , “You Have Reached the weekly fair use volume of JetBrains AI”, is like WTF??
There should be some form of indicator of how much “Volume” you have and have consumed.

Apologies for the inconvenience.
We are working on improving the user experience to mitigate this issue and provide more information to the user about their current quota usage. For example, to indicate to the users that the context is growing and to recommend creating a new chat instance. The UI/UX improvements should help in optimizing the usage and extending the available quota time.
Also, we can extend the quota for users that reach the limit before the next scheduled reset. It is needed to contact support for the extension.
Subject: Complaint About JetBrains Rider AI Functionality and Subscription
Dear JetBrains Support Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction and frustration regarding the AI functionality in JetBrains Rider, a feature for which I have a paid subscription. I have been a loyal customer for quite some time, but recent experiences have left me extremely disappointed with your service.
The JetBrains Rider AI functionality was one of the reasons I decided to subscribe to your platform, as I believed it would provide valuable assistance in my development journey. However, my experience has been far from satisfactory. After only a few days of using the AI features, I was unexpectedly confronted with a message stating that I had exceeded my weekly usage limit. This came as a shock to me, as there was no mention of such limitations when I subscribed to the service.
As a beginner developer who relies on the support and guidance of tools like JetBrains Rider, I find it extremely unreasonable to be suddenly limited in my usage, especially when I am paying over 200 euros annually for this service. It is disappointing to invest in a tool that promised to assist and enhance my development process, only to find out that I am restricted in my access without any prior warning.
What troubles me even more is the lack of transparency in your subscription offerings. Nowhere in the subscription details or during the purchase process was I informed about these limitations on the AI functionality. This lack of disclosure feels misleading and deceptive.
I have also come across information that suggests other development tools, such as Visual Studio with certain plugins, offer similar AI capabilities without imposing usage limits. This has led me to consider exploring alternative options, as I no longer feel that I can trust JetBrains to provide a fair and transparent service.
I sincerely hope that you will take my complaint seriously and address this issue promptly. As a paying customer, I deserve clarity, transparency, and fair treatment. I trust that you will review your policies and practices to ensure that future subscribers are fully informed about any limitations associated with their subscriptions.
I eagerly await your response and hope for a resolution that can restore my faith in JetBrains as a reputable and customer-focused development tools provider.
I have already submitted a ticket regarding this issue, and I hope that the resolution will not be delayed.
Sincerely,
Mark Bakker

This wasn't cheap! I decided to pay for a subscription so that I would have *unlimited use*, and I have reached some silly limit. This is extremely frustrating. First of all, I pay for the *entire suite* of jetbrains products. Then you come out with the AI assistant, and it is *somehow not included* so I actually pay *more to you guys* for a subscription. Now it is limiting me? I am seriously going to reconsider how much money I am sending to you guys if this is any indication of the direction your company is going, and if this is what I can expect to deal with. Next, what will it be? Will I reach some limit for the amount I am coding, and my IDE will be disabled until it is reset?!

Sorry to hear you encountered this problem. We are working on an approach to resolve it for users that encounter the 'quota limits reached' issue with a regular (non-automated) use. The main reason why there is a quota limitation for AI Assistant is that the service provided by the LLM providers is not free for JetBrains. Also, it is possible to request an extension of the quota usage from support when you reach the weekly limit, before the week has passed.
Ivan Pajic do you have any updates about this? One of the best features is the contextual awareness, so while working through problems, refactorings, or enhancement of code quality, it is good to keep using the same session. Otherwise it feels extremely repetitive by having to ask a question with *all* of the adequate context.
Steve973
Since we are using different providers and models, it is not easy to present quotas. Many factors affect the usage calculation of tokens during the chat session. It depends mostly on the complexity of the interactions and the current context size. As described in the related YT issue: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/LLM-1587, sending all prompts in the same chat instance results in exponential growth of the context being sent to the LLM. It is advised to create a new chat instance for each new topic/task.
However, it doesn't mean you should re-create the same context (use new chat instance) every time you need to ask a follow-up question. It is just to separate unrelated topics/tasks and conversations in different chat instances. Since we identified this as a potential root cause for reaching the quota limit.
We are still looking into some UX improvements and other possible solutions like increasing quota limit. However, the actual approach is not decided yet. Apologies for the inconvenience.
I have requested a limit increase, but didn't have an answer yet. Please answer as soon as possible.
Radovfill , please share the request ID.
Margarita Tyumenkova Request #5944570
Radovfill , your limit has been reset. Please check.
The weekly limits are not reset weekly. I have no idea when the week starts. Mine went down on Sunday and it is still down on Monday. Bad experience. I suspended my membership renewal until I understand whats going on.
Edabaykam , a week start day is individual for each user. If you are faced with a limit, you can always contact the JetBrains support to allocate extra volume (use a link from IDE out-of-volume notification).
Margarita Tyumenkova I already created a case with id: #5961379 yesterday.
And now created another one from the link you suggested here is the id : #5965653
thanks.
Edabaykam , thank you for sharing request IDs. Please check updates in #5961379.
Thank you. Margarita Tyumenkova
