Anyone know a remedy to this launch error?

Steps:

1 On Windows 7, run pycharm-community-2024.1.exe checkmarking “Launch…”

Expected: Launch.

Observed: this:

and no launch.

Anu remedy known?

Cause found. This program is not compatible with Windows 7.

Suggestion for improvement: Have the installer say “This program is not compatible with Windows 7.”

I retract that. The supposedly compatible pycharm-community-2023.3.5.exe fails likewise.

PyCharm 2023.3.5 doesn't support Windows 7. You can find system requirements in the IDE documentation: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/pycharm/2023.3/installation-guide.html#requirements
Please try the versions starting from 2020.3 and below: https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/download/other.html

Thanks. I can think of better ways for the program to say that than the above cryptic error message.

Any way to find out which is compatible with Windows 7, short of trial and error? E.g. documentation?

Unfortunately, older documentation was deprecated, and now the only way to access it is to use a wayback machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20220704234707/https://www.jetbrains.com/help/pycharm/2019.3/installation-guide.html#requirements.
The last version that supports Windows 7 is 2019.3.

The last version that supports Windows 7 is 2019.3.

Those docs says 2019.3 requires Windows 7 SP1.
