Failure to push to git hub

Hi
I just followed the video to use github, the repository was created, but then the push failed with:
Failed with error: fatal: Could not read from remote repository.
Cant seem to figure out what is happening, i have git desktop and it works fine so access to git doesn't seem to be a problem
