PyCharm and saving settings

已回答

Went to install a new version of Pycharm and settings aren't saved anywhere outside of the app itself. By the time I realized this, I had already cleared my trash. Very surprised settings are not saved to ~/Library/Application Support/Pycharm(with version info) along with some of it's other settings so that replacing the .app file would not mess with any configuration.

Also PyCharm doesn't use sparkle or some other updater. The DMG doesn't suggest to not overwrite the .app if you want to keep your settings or even have a "read_me_before_installing.txt" file.

Are you on Community Edition or Full version?

A coworker of mine has been using community edition and commented about after he updated to 2016.3 that it didn't import his settings from 2016.2.

Anecdotally, I would always suggest not uninstalling old version at the time of update for this very reason.

Settings are indeed supposed to be transparently imported from the previous version, under ~/Library at the location you mentioned. Can you confirm that you now have a directory at ~/Library/Application Support/PyCharm2016.3 ?

Settings are not stored inside the .app.

Just figured it out too.

same, related to the Community edition.

I am overwriting 2016.1 with latest 2016.3 and it does not 'remember' the settings of the previous version.

This is a big hassle since I need to re install lots of things with every computer (about 20)
