PluginUpdateNotifier: Problem downloading plugins

Hello,

I just installed the PluginUpdateNotifier plugin, and fail to download even the first two out-of-date plugins (see attachment).

Could it be that the plugin is failing to honor my proxy settings? Or are the blanks in the URL the source of all evil? Or does the problem lie somewhere else?
