this would be just great. i am working since years with idea and have now been asked to work on a php project. i tried the php plugin in eclipse, it's better than nothing but by far not as comfortable as i'm used to.
Zend Studio better then Eclipse integration in some places but there is lack of fatures and many inconsistencies there. But for now I haven't seen good PHP IDE. By the way I'm sure if it will be IDEA quality it will allow earn some money. Of course free version should exists also.
What else should I reply than the truth? To me, JetBrains should keep IntelliJ as the most versatile Java Editor / IDE and focus on supporting new Java trends, which are likely to become mainstream, timely, work on improving performance, team collaboration, and the like. As we do not use PHP and do not plan to do so, I have no interest, very simple.
If PHP support is the only way to be competetive against the free Eclipse, so let it be, go ahead and provide PHP support. It would not be a reason for us to upgrade. If PHP support would delay a release, which supports new Java and other stuff (Java 6, Subversion 1.4+ etc....), I would be annoyed.
Hope this answer satisfies more than my original "no interest" statement. I thought I do not need to be more elaborate, to answer the simple question of the original poster.
On the other hand, I would prefer a thorough SQL integration, with support for various database dialects, with syntax highlighting, statement completion, and a versatile interface to the query results. It would be nice, however, we have other tools at our hands to do this (DbVisualizer).
Another area would be to get advances of binding gui controls and databases, so that we could rapidly develop 2 tier applications (the so often disregarded VB/Delphi approach!). We often have the requirement to come up with a solution very quickly, either to show a prototype or to support a very small group with a tool or to make a tool for ourselves to do things easier. For these cases a Java enterprise application is often just overkill.
I overlooked that you posted in the plugin forum. So, if any vendor is willing to develop a PHP plugin - why not, go ahead! We won't buy it, but given the fact that PHP is widely used, it might be successful. In my opinion, it shouldn't be in the core product.

I did not use Zend Studio for long but it seemed to me a little worse than eclipse. Why do you think it's better?
May be it is personal opinion, but I can't catch Eclipse at all. When I launching it I feel like in notepad with complexity of perspectives and so on.
In Zend most annoyng thing that it resolving only open now files.
