plugin not visible from idea

Earlier today I updated the TabSwitch plugin to version 2.1.2 in the plugin repository:
http://plugins.intellij.net/plugin/?id=179
This version should be compatible with Diana 8.0, 8.1 EAP and 9.0/Trunk nightly builds. However the new version does not show up in the IntelliJ IDEA plugin manager. Did I do  something wrong?

It is visible now.

Weird, I still do not see it inside the plugin manager.

I have not seen the new Scala plugin in the Plug-In Manager yet, either.

Addendum: I see I do have TabSwitch installed and I am not seeing an update for it, either. In fact, not a single one of my plug-ins has advertised an update in quite a while. I think the newest one was the Dec. 31 Scal plug-in update. Perhaps it's something about the change of year??

Sorry Bas, my mistake, I don't see it either... (don't ask me what I've
looked at before...) I'm investigating on the matter.

The problem is in the plugin repository. When asking for the list of
available plugins with this url
http://plugins.intellij.net/plugins/list/?build=10015 the TabSwitch
plugin is not reported. But when asking for build=9000 then version
2.1.1 is reported.

Most probably the plugin repository is comparing build numbers with
string comparison (which was the case in IDEA too). Time for a Jira request?

Is there a work-around? How can one get updates when none are presented in the Plug-In Manager?

You can download them manually from the website and then unzip them into
the config/plugins folder.

Well, is there a good way to know which of the dozens I have installed actually has an update available? And what about those that are part of IDEA itself? Are they listed in the Plug-Ins Web site?

I would still like an answer to this question:

More generally, are we ever again going to be able to upgrade plug-ins via the Plug-In Manager?

Upgrading third-party plugins via the plugin manager should be as possible
as ever (as far as I understand, the plugin manager problem only affects
10xxx builds of IDEA, which aren't yet available to the general public, and
we'll fix the problem before the 9.0 EAP starts). Plugins bundled with IntelliJ
IDEA aren't published to the Plugin Manager, can only be upgraded together
with IDEA itself, and we don't have any plans (or see much point) to change
this.

That's not quite correct. It seems that if a plug-in has an until-build
setting of 10xxx then it's not visible to any build of IDEA. For
example, I'm using 8.0.1 (#9164) and don't see TabSwitch 2.1.2 in the
plug-in manager.

I agree it should be, but read the thread, it's not working. I haven't seen an update since about the beginning of 2009, and I know at least one of the plug-ins I'm using (Scala) has seen an update since then.

Which build are you on? The latest release of the Scala plugin is marked
as compatible only with IDEA 9684+.

OK, I see. I'm using 8.0.1 / #9164.

To allow TabSwitch updates I have removed the until-build attribute from the plugin.xml. Version 2.1.3 should now be visible from any version of IntelliJ IDEA 8. Still not visible for build greater than 9999, even though no until-build is set.

same issue on 8.1 #9732 linux

Plugin (FindBugs-IDEA) definied: since-build="9013" it is updated from version 0.9.31-dev to 0.9.8-dev, in the plugin manager on the 'Installed' tab there is no visible feedback of the availbility of an updated version for the plugin. in the 'Available' tab i can see the actual updated plugin version (0.9.8-dev). on linux idea 8.0.1 #9164 it seems to work, the 'Installed' tab shows that there's a updated version available.

since idea 8.1 i have two folder in my home dir:
.IntelliJIdea80 and .IntelliJIdea8x and only the 80 folder has both sub directories 'config' and 'system' the actual 8.1 (IntelliJIdea8x) folder has only a system sub dir. maybe it has something to do with this structure?

again this isue on 8.1.3 linux

Plugin (FindBugs-IDEA) definied: since-build="9013" it is updated from version 0.9.83-dev to 0.9.84-dev, in the plugin manager on the 'Installed' tab there is no visible feedback of the availbility of an updated version for the plugin. in the 'Available' tab i can see the actual updated plugin version (0.9.84-dev).

if an until-build="9999" attribute ist defined in the plugin descriptor an updated version is shown on the installed tab in the idea plugin manager.
