Multi-Monitor Support
I know this gets brought up every few months or so, but since it hasn't been addressed, I'm brining it up again: Doesn't it seem a little strange that IDEA doesn't allow multiple editor windows for multiple monitors? Multiple monitor support has been common place for developers for quite a while now (for me, it's been 9 years and 4 employers). Only being able to use half my screen space to develop seems like a fairly large limitation. I'm surprised this hasn't been done already (by Jetbrains or it's competitors).

I know this is not perfect, but what I've been doing lately is undock the tool windows and move them to the second screen, thus allowing to have both a fully maximized editor and tool windows.
Yeah, I used to work that way quite a bit, but it's a bit clunky. I'd create two tab groups and shuffle files between them using 'move to opposite group'. I'd really like tabs in IDEA to work like tabs in most browsers. With Chrome, Firefox or Safari, you can drag a tab into its own window, or drag tabs between existing windows. I understand this isn't the simplest thing in the world to implement, but it would give users a lot of flexibility without complicating the UI much (it would probably simplify the usability of tab groups).
I thought that floatable editor tabs were going to be implemented in Maia... maybe it didn't work out.
Just out of curiosity, do JetBrains employees use multiple monitors?
Hello Bryan,
Yes, I'd say that about half of the team uses two monitors.

Could folks share best practices and gotchas related to use of Idea in a dual monitor setup? Anything in Maia to look for as far as enhanced support for dual monitor? Any pointers for optimizing around keyboard driven interaction also much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gabe
