Idea includes generated files in subversion

I've just started trialling Idea CE - been using Netbeans which I found very user-friendly, but has limited Android support. I'm willing to deal with a certain learning curve with Idea, but some things seem bizarre. Case in point:

I created a new project and imported it into my subversion repository. Idea checked in all the generated files - like the class files. It seems I can go and individually exclude specific files from the checkin, but shouldn't the default be to exclude generated files?
