Uninstall option: delete caches

Hi

The uninstaller now has an option to delete caches, which is selected by default.

Am I right in thinking that this will include deleting your local history?

If so, then I think it's dangerous to have this option selected by default, because you might inadvertently delete your local history. In particular, if you're installing the latest EAP builds, you might be doing fairly regular installations.

Agreed. I have changed the option to unchecked by default.

Good - thanks.

Related to this, is it a good idea to have Local History as part of the caches?
In general, caches tend to be resources which can be regenerated if required, and only really exist for performance reasons.
Local History doesn't really fit into this, as it can't be regenerated if it gets deleted.

And the text should warn that it will delete local history if enabled,
since users may not associate "caches" with "local history".

Ciao,

Done.

Yes - I agree that in the current situation a warning is good.

I supposed my point was supposed to apply more widely than just uninstallation.
Should Local History really be considered as a cache, and be stored in the System folder along with the "real" caches?
A cache folder leads me to believe that, if I delete it, it won't have any real effect, apart from requiring IDEA to rebuild them when it requires them and therefore taking a bit longer at this point. But it doesn't make any functional difference.

The situation is obviously different for Local History.
So I'm wondering if the Local History should be stored in a folder other than System.
