This is a bug.

*The project 'xxxxx' has an older format and will be converted.
You won't be able to open the project by earlier versions of IDEA.
/details*

*Old versions of project files will be saved to:
'/home/yyyy/Projects/rails/xxxxx/projectFilesBackup'    *

This comes EVERY time Intellij is shut down improperly. Why? Intellij
hangs up on occasion, the computer might accidentally die on me,
etc...

This didn't use to occur in earlier versions of Intellij, why now?

How come it thinks that I have some old version ?

Could you please click on 'details' label and post here the detailed description of conversion?
Also please attach content of 'projectFilesBackoup' folder.

Problem #2, I don't see any "details" link or button... where would I find this?

Maybe the dialog is too small? http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/IDEA-63109

        The following conversions will be performed:
Rails Modules will be      converted to Facets

Could you please attach content of projectFilesBackup folder created after conversion?
