intermittent pausing

Hello, I am experiencing a problem in one of my source files where the editor pauses after each edit

I make. I've seen a very serious case of this on a colleague's machine before

and it seemed to be related to a large area of code being commented out. However, in my case, I only have about 10 lines of comments.

Does anyone know how to work around this issue? It is soaking up time.
