Document for all cool features
Hi,
Today Eclipse 3.1 was released, now the flame-wars about the best IDE
start again. It would be nice, if the PR-team at Jetbrains could provide
a document of all IDEA-goodies which would make the live of IDEA
evangelists easier. Maybe this document (preferrable PDF) also could be
useful to developers which upgrade from a previous IDEA version to learn
the new stuff.
I know, there is a quite similar documentation at
http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/features/newfeatures.html, but having it
printable and in more detail (like the Eclipse news-and-noteworthy ones)
would be much better.

Ahmed.
+1 and I would suggest that we start a thread detailing what we think
are cool features.

OK, two documents or one with two parts would be fine:
1) all existing cool features
2) all new (now IDEA 5.0) feature.

I was at Bruce Eckel's "Design Pattern" seminar last week.
Each attendee brought his own laptop configured with his own IDE.
I sat between two Eclipse users. One was a 'sophisticated' user that
writes Eclipse plugins and uses Eclipse as the framework for a separate
application.
We did a lot of feature comparison between IntelliJ and Eclipse. Both
Eclipse users came to the conclusion that IntelliJ was a much better IDE
than Eclipse.
In some cases where both IntelliJ and Eclipse had pretty much the same
feature, the IntelliJ implementation always seemed to be much better.
A frequent reply from the Eclipse users went something like this: "Well,
yes, Eclipse CAN do that, HOWEVER it is not as easy/user friendly in
Eclipse."

I know that, but I had the impressions that Rob's new mission was also
to make screencasts, before Operation "Free the noodles" starts(*1).
Hence my question.
*1 : secret code name for the invasion, pardon, the liberation of North
Korea.

I don't suppose you captured that on camera?
That would be an excellent marketing tool.

Screencasts are on hold while working on other higher priority stuff for
the 5.0 release. I'll start on them soon after.
How about Operation Imancipate North Korea (OINK).
(Yes, I know 'imancipate' should be 'emancipate, but Bush doesn't know
that. (You did know that Operation Iraqi Freedom was originally going to
be called Operation Iraqi Liberation, didn't you?))
