IDEA9- cannot login to TeamCity - RuntimeException

Trying to login to TeamCity (5.0.1) via the Intellij 9.0 plugin (4.0.0.9140), I receive the following error:

"Cannot login to TeamCity: java.lang.RuntimeException: jetbrains.buildServer.xmlrpc.RemoteCallException: Call http://{web server}:8081/TeamCity-5.0.1 /RPC2 RemoteAuthenticationServer.getServerVersion: org.apache.xmlrpc.XmlRpcClientException: Unexpected exception in client processing"

The credentials and url I am using are correct as I can login via browser, just not through intellij 9.  I was able to login with version 8.1.4 prior to upgrading to 9.0
