Thanks! I'd better say well done EAP. This would hardly be possible without all your suggestions, opinions, bug reports and even whining and sarcasm ;)
Thanks a lot!

Well, I remember myself whining about EAP quality and realizing that I was wrong back then. I tried to be very picky later and report accurately about all bugs and nuances I met (even being pressed with my deadlines at work). Most of them were Fixed or Opened and I saw that some extremely old issues are revised again those days. Thank's a lot for that and congratulations with a new build everyone ! Let's go back to work and Find some Usages .. :)
Congratulations on your success in shipping IDEA 4! I know what a tremendous amount of difficulty there is when doing that last push to release, and you guys succeeded with flying colors.
OK, 4.0 is out but what happens next? There are already 68 reported issues for build 1162 (mostly exceptions, which is always a trustworthy indicator that a product isn't quite ready to be released yet) and some 6-7000 issues still to be fixed all in all.
Call me grumpy but aren't we still in EAP mode but without the frequent new builds? Do we really have to sit around and wait for 4.1 before seeing the overwhelming backlog shrink to manageable proportions?
Sometimes in the life of a software product, you have to release it. There's no way to make a perfect product without any bugs - as long as it does more than add x and y. They have released 4.0, because it is stable enough. The bugs will surely be fixed in some 4.0.1, 4.0.2 etc. releases.
Found the answer in another thread; just keep downloading the trial 4.0, it's renewed with new builds as they become available. Works until the evaluation period runs out, I just hope my 4.0 purchase order will be expedited quickly enough so I won't have to fall back on 3.0.5 before getting my brand new 4.0 license.
Sorry to say that but releasing a Java product with known runtime exceptions is NOT a good release process.
IDEA developers has shown in the past a strong focus on quality and reactiveness but looking at the release process for this 4.0 release I dont think it was good.
Yes the bug status shows a lot of remaining bugs & exceptions and that's not good has Users perception (in our case Users = Developpers) of a new product is vital during the first days of shipping. Moreover, if you look at the number of Release Candidates it shows that there is a strong process problem.
We dont know what were the constraints (marketing, business) that led to shipping IDEA 4.0 with this status but this is really strange.
Last but not least, there is another problem with the Build number: yesterday IDEA 4.0 release number was #1162, and today it is #1165. That is not really good, and build #1165 should be named 4.0.1 or anything else but not 4.0.
Dont misunderstand what I think about IDEA: it is a really good product that I am found of. It is IMHO better than JBuilder and NetBeans or Eclipse. But, I am a bit disappointed about the way this release has been done.
Agree. For me it is stable enough. Especially I don't like people complain about stability in a released version, which did not tried and reported bugs against EAP versions.

What people? Who complained but didn't report issues in the EAP?
That aside, I'm frontrunner in upgrading our 3.x licenses to 4.x so you better believe that I'm concerned with it's stability. I wouldn't want the transition to be a bad experience for any of my colleagues.
Consider also that IT business isn't so new any more. There are many experiences to draw from, one of them being that 6-7000 open issues might very well indicate something about a product's stability.
Yeah and it's build 1162 and not a repacking of 1159.
they have a wrong link to "silent" properties file in dld window (one "s" to much):

Already fixed

Congratulations, JetBrains! Now take a couple of weeks off (somewhere warmer than Prague in February) and then we'll start clamoring for 5.0 features.
Seriously, you've built a great product, one I'm continuously thrilled to use.
