Hani, It must be very draining to be you since you seem to hate everything about development with Java. I mean, if you hate it that much, just go somewhere else or maybe offer your own solutions. Leave your attacks on people to your Blog.
I am probably just missing the application of this, but what does this do for me? It just seems to add a bunch of white space at the bottom of my file?
Yep, a user complained that when adding stuff at the bottom of the file, it was tiring to his eyes to have to look down, so the virtual whitespace was added at the bottom. This in turn upset everyone other than that guy, and after much debating (check the SCR!) we got a switch which makes everyone happy, hooray!
Is there still always some "virtual space", even if you've deselected the option?
If you've got a file which is slightly smaller (up to about 5 lines smaller) than the vertical screen size - so you can see it all on one screen - then there's still a scrollbar.
I don't think that there should be a scrollbar in this situation.
What exactly are you talking about?
"IDE Settings -> Editor -> Show virtual space at bottom"
toggle it and scroll all or ALL the way down to the bottom of the editor
Robert, it must be very draining being you. You're endlessly amazed and surprised by everything.

Ditto. It's like allowing them to place cursor after end of line. Why?
But hey, if it makes another developer want to use IntelliJ, bring it on.

ahh, ok so it's just saying always keep a certain amount of white space after the end of my file.
thanks for the info.
and you said IntelliJ had stopped innovating... ;)

Would it help if the Editor background color was different beyond the end of the file (customizable, of course)?
