A little Splashscreen bashing :)

Just a little rant, not to be taken too seriously:

Who did the artwork on the EAP splash screen? And why? :)

The DaVinci artwork was great, the Stonehenge image looked sturdy, but the current image looks like the splash screens, you might saw on 'homepages' built in 1998

I mean, if you guys can develop such a great IDE, why create such a crappy splash screen?

Because it is not done by the IDEA developers.

Ah, now I understand! Maybe one of their nephews then? :)

That is crappy on current splash?
I think is well thought-out splash for Aurora.
The splash look inside from ship gun. The ship cruiser named 'Aurora' - it
hold on berth in St. Petersburg after revolution in October 1917.
Aurora is goddess of morning star and we look sunrise in gun target.
The idea of IDEA splash for Aurora is very good, i guess! :)

But maybe you don like such colors? :)

It does make total sense if you live or have been to St. Petersburg. Thanks for the bit of education.

I would say that IDEA's splash screens/installer are a stark contrast to the simple (sometimes seen as elegant) earlier artwork. I guess now they seem a bit laden with color and magic. I am not sure if this is bad or not. I did like the original davinci one because it symbolized the inventiveness that made IDEA so special.

Well, I wouldn't go as far as calling it 'crappy', but it lacks the subtle colour scheme of the Ariadna builds. Definetely preferred the Stonehenge splashscreen

I think they should lose the wolf ....

Ah, thanks for the information, the St. Petersburg part I wasn't aware of.

And indeed, IMHO the coloring of this image is a little bit in-yer-face, and doesn't quite match the clean and elegant coloring and layout of the IDE itself.

Maybe that's what the gun is intended for :)

I think the wolf thing is like arctic aurora borealis type reference.

Idea is a pretty soft looking ide. There are not a lot of bold dark colors, mostly light blue, light purple, light green ect. I personnally like that. The splash screen on the other hand is very strong and dominate looking, dark blue, orange red ect. I wonder if this is why people say they don't like it.

Personally I couldn't care less, as long as idea can refactor code in minutes what use to take me hours they could use a cow patty on the splash screen and I would still buy it :)

The Da Vinci splash stole the show for me... very sophisticated yet not
overbearing... art and technology gracefully combined just like in IDEA.

Can IntelliJ considered having its artists rework the Da Vinci splash
artwork to use the plastic/bubblegum look and feel of the newest Aurora
releases on the inventions? How cool would the Da Vinci devices look if
they were actually constructed with softly colored plastic, an
imaginative physical device that also has the look of Aurora?

Cheers,
Jon

With a name like Aurora, the obvious splash screen would be an animated
Aurora Borealis.

The splash screen can be changed by replacing the file idea_logo.png within icons.jar. If you get an animated gif of the Aurora, post it!

Yep, but that has already been "Do not fix"ed, so I was instead going
for Aurora's awesome look on a physical device. Plus, IntelliJ could
sell a line of colorful little lego-like versions of Aurorafied Da Vinci
devices. :)

hehe... so we can have Da Vinci's man's genitals colored with 2 little
buggle gums...

or Alain, we can just slap a bikini on him. :)

This would be neat! Maybe there are some IDEA users too who can create a splash-screen which matches the look and feel of the IDE?
