I think that the new right gutter markers shadow should be removed. This real estate is busy as it is and doesn't need the waste of space or clutter the shadow adds.
+1 for the yellow line. It it very hard to see. Especially when there is some cvs changes around it.
I thought the shadow was intended to make it easier to see the lines (because yellow/black has better contrast than yellow/light gray). I haven't used it enough to determine whether I like it, though.
I don't know whether I like it or not yet, but I think if the lines are 3D-looking, the big red-or-yellow-or-green-or-eye square at the top should look more 3D as well.
when they only make the errors and warnings in "3D" and let the cvs-changes in the old-format, than it will be great because you see a difference bettween errors/warnings and cvs-changes. and especially the errors/warnings are in the foreground because its optic(IMHO it's important to see a difference bettween errors/warnings and cvs-changes)!

??? can you show us a screenshot? what do you mean?
You would have to be very quick 8-) : the green/yellow/red square in the top right corner of a source pane shows an icon of an 'eye' (an eyecon?) while IDEA is scanning the source for errors. It's fun. Not sure how useful, though, because the scanning is usually so fast the eye winks out of existence before you can blink. (Sorry. I'll stop now) :-O
I think what Michael is saying though, is that it would be better to show something (like the eye for example) when code inspections, parsing etc is happening rather than show an empty box (with no colour) as is currently the case? I may be mistaken...
i'll try to catch one, it basically shows an eye at the top while it's parsing the file. It happens pretty quickly but i'll try ot grab a screen shot of it

"Let's just try it, you know they will raise hell if they don't like it"
I'm not saying that this is bad. I would rather have opinionated users instead of ones that don't know what they want, then when you build something they say
The scanning takes noticably longer (although still quite acceptable) when you have a huge number of "yellow-line" errors turned on. If I've got all 140 errors turned on from my plugin, I'm able to see the eye for 2-4 seconds on largish files. That's long enough to make the "eye" a darn handy feature to have.
(The plugin, "InspectionGadgets" will ship as soon as I get past an annoying little Swing text-formatting issue.)

i'm not real crazy about the shadow either. At first I thought it was a TODO and a warning on the same line.
I do like the eye at the top while it's looking, anyone noticed that one yet???
Is that a shadow or a 3D effect, it bugged me too. Also on a laptop
it's now hard to see if you have a yellow line or what.

Quite often you have red, yellow and blue markers close together. So, we
can do without the shadow.

I must be one of the few who likes the new shadow effect.
Admittedly I don't use cvs, so maybe I'm not seeing the extent of the problem with the effect you're talking about there.
Oh well, another one of those "I don't like the new garbage collection icon" discussions...

for the icon Scott has designed. don't show an empty rectangle while idea run code checking, show an animation or something like that!
It's not the Scott's icon. This icon appears in 873 when background
inspection are running.

hahahah and we were all whining about features like UI builder and
Aspects, but a blinking eye is time well spent... LOL
