New GC Icon
The first thing I noticed when firing up the new 823 build is the updated GC icon. I liked the simple, 2-D look of the old icon, but I must say that new icon looks and fits in well with the rest of the l&f. Nice job guys (and girls)...

Same for me. If there still is enough time for changing such
poppycock, there should be enough time to do really important things
like more refactorings (for example: Make Method Non-Static, Inline
Super Class, Inline Constant/Field, ...).
Just my 2 Eurocent,

Yep, I also think it looks good !

To be honest, I liked the old one much better. In fact, when I first looked at the new icon, I was wondering what the heck IDEA was using a thimble for (cause thats what I think the thing looks like).

I doubt that the icons are made by the same guys who do refactorings. I think
they work in two different threads.
my two US cents.

Hate to say it, but the old one looked better to me.
This one seems too blurry and non-iconic :(

This might be correct.
Tom
Bring back the old one! Keep the icon style rather than trying to have photo-realistic images on 32x32 pixels.
Besides: If I didn't know that there was a garbage can in the same spot previously, I wouldn't have recognized it either.

It is correct.

In 4th. You know, we have a talented artist. ;)

YEEEEE!!!
Let's have another of these voting frenzy like the "Whether it is going to
be TODO, To Do, Todo , TO-DO..."
We haven't had one like this for at least 6 months. I really miss it ;)
So here it is I like the new one better.
Jacques
PS: I just have to warn everybody. Last time JetBrains just picked the one
they wanted because the vote was so unconclusive.

It kinda looks like the Mac OS X Trash icon... :) It's true though that it kinda clashes with the rest of the icons.
I would be in favor of a consistent set of icons wether they are photo-realistic (might be hard to do at 32x32...) or iconic.
IMHO the old one was better. Is it me or the new one looks studded? I'm guessing it's supposed to be a mesh, but as remarked by others, it's difficult to make out on 32x32.
It's an icon, and a garbage collection icon at that. I would focus on the more important changes in Build #823, like taglib inspection in jsp files, and source root detection are now functional again. Is the icon selection going to make you stop using IDEA?
Good work JetBrains. Keep up the good work. I personally look forward to seeing the addition of more intuitive functionalities that will make my coding more simplified and enjoyable. Change the icons as much as you want (as long as they work when you click on them).

May s/he say hello here? We don't even know his/her name _
This got me thinking: we could do a weekly "knowing your heroes" program, where we could slashdot-like interviews with one of you each week. How about that? _

Yeah Jacques !
+1 for the new logo !!!
Guillaume ;)

x, y, z and t(ime)? Does the trashcan icon changes over time depending
on the trash amount? Turning it up-side-down when clicked would be
nice, isn't it?
Tom
The ultimate answer: let the user be able to select from 2 (or 3)
different trash can icons.
Tom
No, no! Lets discuss every icon.
Tom
PS: Don't take me too seriously. It's very hot today...
Nicer that the black square it gets surrounded with right now, indeed. :)
I bet you can do that already: get the old icon from the icon.jar and
replace it in the new icon.jar
So now let's go back to something more important ;)

You give them the "Weekly update newsletter", and now they want to
know the people behind the names. What will come 's next? Request for
autographed photographs? :)
This is not the first request from users to get to know JetBrains
people, history and practices a little more, and with a reason.. :
compared to giants like Borland, or Oracle, we are a closer community,
and as such, we want to know you/each other better.
Should I/we file a request ? Hope not :)
Alain
+1 for that! IDEA boxed set, with autographs from your favorite Eugenes!
Where is the feature request ? So that I may cast some votes on this horse
too ;)
Guillaume
It seems that it's a time to implement icon themes :)
Best regards,
Vladimir Kondratyev
