Bugfix updates
Hi all,
I will clarify the bugfix issue: with every license you get a basic
maintenance & support which entitles you to receiving free bugfix updates to
the 3.0 version no matter when we release it. The support itself is limited
to 30 days.

Does this also mean that registering IDEA 3 will not limit you to to only
12 months' usage of IDEA? i.e. once you have purchased you can run the
same version forever if you like ? just like most other software?

3.0 will work forever.

I'm sorry, I'm still confused.
I'll try to be explicity clear, and I apologize for my denseness.
So if we purchased a basic license, we'd get any bugfixes for that release, whenever they are released, so on Dec. 20, 2003, when you release 3.2, we'd still be able to use it, correct? We still pay for 4.0, whenever it comes out.
Also, what extra support does the annual contract come with?
would you at least consider some sort of subscription for updates only. I will never call idea for any kind of support.
What is important to me is that I can keep running the most current version without going broke. It would be great if there was a monthly or yearly contract that would allow us all updates whenever they came out. It would guarentee a steady revenue stream for you and some price guarentee for us.
For those people who are using EAP versions all the time I guess the
subscription issue is not that important.

Will our license work with the EAP version or do we have to continually get the 3 day licenses? I just purchased a real license so I have not been through the process yet. I feel like you have a good product and deserve to get paid for it, but in the same sense we need some way of staying current without going into the poor house.

I'm assuming that at some point our old licenses would not work (major release ect). If we had some option for paying a fixed amount either monthly or yearly that would allow us unlimited major and minor releases but not necessarily support it would be great. Big companies are going to buy support, so you can charge whatever you want for that and it won't affect the starving programmers who love intellij :)
This price is mostly for maintenance. Support for large companies costs
them much more usually.

So I guess that $200 a year gives us minor release updates and a discount on major releases. I was looking for some way to fix our costs for the major releases. The 60% is a great discount, and you are already doing a lot for us, it's just scary when you don't have a large company buying it for you. I guess we will have to trust that you won't do a borland on us and make the next release $2500 :)
Well, the only thing I can do is simply promise that we will not go borland
on you. The price of $395 was the same since IDEA 1.0 which was nothing
compared to 3.0.
