dont forget I was and still am one of the foremost (I think) proponents
of a non-JRE-download. I am on a 8 mbps ISDN line, and I just dont like

Supoprting a JRE will probably be a lot more daunting task than just supporting a java app. And You can by no means distrubute a JDK for everyone, thus cutting the amount of potential customers.

Was the #358 without the JRE ? aka are these folks listening ?

That was a build where you couldn't open Project or IDE properties so they
removed it.

yes, there were separate links for downloading the JRE and the IDE.

First of all I just wanted to say that given that IDEA is a development tool, it should be provided without the JRE.

Second, the IntelliJ folks should consider making the app (especially the EAP) a JavaWebStart app. With well designed packaging of jars you could drastically reduce the download between updates to only the changed jars.

Check out the OxygenXML editor....it uses JavaWebStart. If the user is running JavaWebStart, you know they already have a JRE.
