36MB? You cant be serious.

Guess I'll be stuck at #655 for a while. I dont need another JRE. And
editing the .bat file was not that hard.

I might get around to #657 one day but the decision to bundle a JRE will
singlehandedly reduce the number of people trying the EAP version, which is
the opposite of what you should be trying to do.

I'll continue to report what I see in #655 for the time being.

Michael.

It's not so funny for those of us with limited resources. Sorry.

Michael,

We were just discussed the "Parkinson's Law" instead (see e.g.
http://www.intellij.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/TheColorOfOurBikeShed).

dont forget I was and still am one of the foremost (I think) proponents
of a non-JRE-download. I am on a 8 mbps ISDN line, and I just dont like
the notion of YAJRE (Yet Another JRE) as such.. But some humour should
be in order

Yep I think it topped the ToDo/ TODO/ To Dos, Tasks controversial ;)

to use the correct jre. This suggestion, obviously, only pertains to the
eap. I fully expect the final version to come with the required jre.

why that? If it works for the EAP, it will work for GA as well..

(I am pretty sure this JRE thing is the hottest topic ever discussed on
this forum. I think we should keep it, even if just for the fun of it)

Well, now you will have start answering questions like:

Why doesn't your JRE run on MY_ITANIUM_WINDOWS
Why doesn't your JRE run on MY_EXOTIC_LINUX_DISTRIBUTION
Why doesn't your JRE run on MY_NON_X86_LINUX
Why doesn't your JRE run on MY_SOLARIS
Why doesn't your JRE run on (whatever)

Supoprting a JRE will probably be a lot more daunting task than just supporting a java app. And You can by no means distrubute a JDK for everyone, thus cutting the amount of potential customers.

No, no, no. This is a serious problem for many of us. Turning it into a junk thread won't do anybody any favours.

Build 657 is a lot better.

Guess why I just came to look at downloaded a later release than 655! :)

Pity I'm on an 64K ISDN line here (no BroadBand/Cable available)...

Can't resist asking :)
I saw the other thread about brief availability of #358, (and it's later removal).

Was the #358 without the JRE ? aka are these folks listening ?

That was a build where you couldn't open Project or IDE properties so they
removed it.

yes, there were separate links for downloading the JRE and the IDE.

First of all I just wanted to say that given that IDEA is a development tool, it should be provided without the JRE.

Second, the IntelliJ folks should consider making the app (especially the EAP) a JavaWebStart app. With well designed packaging of jars you could drastically reduce the download between updates to only the changed jars.

Check out the OxygenXML editor....it uses JavaWebStart. If the user is running JavaWebStart, you know they already have a JRE.
