tab icon 'x' at upper left corner

Is the 'x' you see the symbol that represents java classes that are in a
directory structure excluded from compilation? Check out your settings
for Project>Compiler>Exclude from Compile. If you think the help system
could be improved on symbol information, consider voting for SCR #20008:
