Can i backport DomElement and friends to 5.x

this is a completely new API in 6.0 and therefore not supported in 5.0

actually DomElement and its supporting package are a antastic addition to
the openApi , does the source of it(which come with the pluginDev openapi
source) built on top of XmlElements public api thus can be backported to
the 5.x series OR it use some internal api...
is it recommended or blessed step by JB?
