IntelliJ IDEA 14.1.4 RC w/bundled JRE 1.8u40 (OS-X)
Since switching to the bundled JRE 1.8 I get keyboard lockups every couple of minutes and have to restart IDEA. I had to switch back to the latest Apple JDK 1.6. This is on OS-X 10.10.3.

Have you tried EAP 15? This version uses the bundled 1.8 JRE and so far I've not had any keyboard lockups with it on OS X 10.9

There are some known issues with JDK 1.8 performance on Mac: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-138687 .
Indeed, this should be resolved in Idea 15 and the upcomming Idea 14.1.4 RC.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will wait until the Scala plugin is updated for EAP 15 and give it another try.
