New Resoure Patterns ignored

I am using IU-132.325 on mac 10.8.5. I added some extensions to the Preferences...Compiler Resource patterns text box but they are still not being copied to the output directory and are therefore not on the classpath. i noticed that there used to be a list of extensions and now there are only 2 by default: !?*.groovy;!?*.java. Still, a file with a "txt" extension is copied to the output directory and placed on the classpath even though "txt" is not defined as a pattern. Has there been some change to how this works? How can I add file types to what is placed on the classpath at build time?
