There is a very good discussion of it on the original Wiki at
http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WhatIsSoftwareDesign, and it lead to the saying
"the source code is the design"
(http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?TheSourceCodeIsTheDesign). For anyone not
familiar with the Wiki, this is a very good entry point (not easy at
first, but loaded with info, links, and branches into other topics). You
can get lost in there for days if you're not careful.
