Usability of more than one splitter

I would like to use 3 editor splitters at a time.  But there seems to be usability issues.

• With three splitters, how do I close one of them and not the other two?  I only see option to close "all others" than a given one via "Unsplit"
• How do I cycle through the splitters using keystrokes?  When using CTL-Tab it only toggles between TWO of the splitters .. unless you keep the ctl-tab depressed. In that case you see a list of all files - but you don't know which ones have their own splitters and which are hiding behind other top-level editor buffers. The third is orphaned

Maybe these features do not exist .. but if so an answer would be welcome.
