Maybe they didn't update the Java FAQ for Tiger? IIRC, 1.5 was scheduled to be released with Tiger, and the FAQ entry you just linked just says that 1.5 won't be available for previous (<= 10.3) releases.

Wrong because you also need to download Tiger and it's referring to a PREVIEW of Tiger and the Information on that page is also VERY VERY old. You needed to download it because during development the JDK was handled by a different team of engineers, hence it's not part of the package that installed Tiger, and it ran at its own pace.
I'm sure, they will give it a try when Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) is released. If IDEA runs stable enough on 1.5 with all platform, I bet, they will let it run on 1.5.

I'm afraid it's not that simple: Apple Java 1.5 works only on Tiger => JetBrains would have to ship and maintain 2 versions: one for Tiger, and one for Panther.

Yes (and imho anyone who doesn't is simply crazy... tiger's 1.4 and 1.5 JDK speeds are incredibly improved by as much as 1200x speed increase... Ask Maxim he's seen it)

I asked here at the office, of the 6 minimal idea licenses we have, all of which are on OS X, we're all going to Tiger as well as soon as NIH gets it, which is usually when it's released.
I'll be getting a copy the day it comes out. I've been running the developer builds on my PB and it's certainly faster than Panther and has gotten really nice in the last two builds.
Not straight away - but then I'm not currently using Idea on OS X because the performance was so horrible when I tried it (iMac G5 20" 512Mb) and because it's my home machine.
My guess is once OS/X Tiger is out, with 1.5, we might see IDEA shipping
with a 1.5 runtime. Heres hoping...
Just wondering, is there an ETA from Apple on that? I don't know much
about the Apple world.

Too bad, I can't wait to be able to write plugins in 'real' 1.5 (i.e.
not retroweaved or anything).
btw, our product was shipping with 1.4.2_06 and we were seeing
random 'JVM vanishes' problems -- all gone with 1.4.2_08.
