Any support for this from within IDE will be great to debug programs (especially those that use maven-assembly-plugin to assemble uber jars).

I'd suggest to submit corresponding ticket to IDEA tracker because that's the only way the feature may be processed.
Community support for it (via votes) can have a serious impact on release time.
