Is it just me, or....

Has anyone else noticed that hierachical menus disappear to quickly -- it's not possible to perform a diagonal drag from the menu item that pops up the menu to the menu itself, without having the second menu go away as soon as the mouse leaves the menu item?

I sympathize with what you are saying, but your solution would penalize people who have fine motor skills by forcing them to wait for the prior submenu to timeout before being able to open the next submenu. (i.e. The Windows Start menu drives me crazy because of the delay)

This isn't about me -- this is standard behavior in Windows that isn't being implemented correctly.

(Incidentally, if you don't like the behavior you can modify the timing with the TweakUI utility: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp, but IDEA doesn't pay attention to those settings.)

jEdit has the same problem, as well as the application I currently develop. So I think this is a JDK-problem not limited to IDEA.

It's not just you. It drives me NUTS. If you don't move the mouse
perfectly horizontally over to the pop-up menu and THEN drag it all the way
up or down, you totally lose the pop-up menu and have to start again. It's
maddening. Right now, it seems there's ZERO delay. There needs to be at
least some delay.

Maybe user configurable for those who (amazingly) don't find the current
behavior just beyond irritating.

HAHA for once we're complaining about something being too fast! Yeah
it's really annoying, I've noticed it prevalently in 963.

fwiw I hadn't even noticed this behaviour - I think because I instinctively just move the mouse over the join between the two menus.

having said that, I dont think the menu staying there longer would bother me - that is unless it prevented new sub-menus appearing.

cheers

as a side note - this was a terrible subject.

Mea culpa on the subject, but this has really been driving me nuts, and it was a shameless ploy to get more people to read my missive...

Here's another oddity: this only]]> happens with right-click menus.

It doesn't happen with the main menubar.

If you don't know what I mean, try using the CVS menu in the right-click menu on any file...

I think it happens on the main menu as well. Open Tools -> Macros and try to
diagonally select "Edit Macros....". It won't work. It is however more noticable
especially on the CVS context menu because the distance your mouse has to
travel is greater. And yes, it's driving me nuts, too.
